Session Committees

Committees of First Presbyterian Church, Florence, AL

Programs and ministries of the church are planned and carried out by various permanent committees. Each committee is moderated by an elder presently serving on the Session. Other members are from the congregation at large. The committees and moderators for 2012 are as follows:

Worship Committee
The Worship Committee plans for and facilitates corporate and individual worship. Its areas of responsibility include providing for weekly worship services and special services established by the Session; organizing the music program; providing resources for use in individual and family worship; being responsible for religion and the arts programs.

Stewardship Committee
The Stewardship Committee provides opportunities for personal commitment of time, talent and money and establishes and maintains responsible stewardship of church resources. Areas of responsibility include providing for stewardship education; providing opportunities for personal commitment through annual every member canvas and personal contacts and special offerings; providing financial control and accountability, and arranging for the management of church property including repairs and major renovation projects.

Christian Education/Nurture Committee
The Christian Education Committee nurtures the entire church family in its Christian education, development and spiritual growth. Areas of responsibility include providing a comprehensive program of Christian education; providing facilities and programs for individual Christian development, including training for leadership; providing opportunities for spiritual growth through all stages of life.

Congregational Care/Fellowship Committee
The Congregational Care Committee develops Christian caring and concern for one another among members of the congregation and incorporates each member into the church family. Areas of responsibility include coordinating programs concerned with congregational fellowship, including Wednesday night suppers, lemonade in the courtyard during summer months, and picnics; showing concern for members especially in need of congregational care; providing for a church directory; helping manage required rolls and records and website management.

Mission/Service Committee
The Mission/Service Committee enables the congregation to participate in the church’s worldwide and local mission through opportunities for service, benevolent giving, and education to understand the global mission and ministry of the church. Areas of responsibility include providing mission education in community, nation and world; providing opportunities for hands-on participation in local and international agencies; organize and oversee special offerings.
